Fun in the Sun

Over the past couple of weeks we have had a good few days of amazing sunshine – which has been such a nice surprise for us all! Our wee family has been making the most of the heat, so I thought I’d share what we’ve been doing with you all. Archie loves being outside in the sun, and Chris and I always like to take advantage of him being relaxed and playing on his own for a while so that we can get some jobs done!

As soon as we moved into our new home – a couple of months ago now – we knew that the garden needed a huge makeover. It’s not finished yet, but Chris (with me watching and telling him what to do) has done an awful lot of work to improve our wee space. I wish I’d taken a ‘before’ picture – I took one of all of the rooms inside the house, but totally forgot about the garden – because now we have nothing to compare what it currently looks like to, but we know ourselves how much better it is. The garden isn’t huge but it’s the perfect area for us to take care of and make our own. So far Chris has taken out two big bushes, trimmed the tree back so that it creates more space below and also cut away at the overgrown hedge on the other side of the fence at the top of the garden. Our favourite feature of the garden is our little flowerbed. When we moved in, this was a massive pile of stones and overgrown weeds/dead plants. We stripped it back and took out all the stones, then put down some fresh soil and planted some lovely plants that we bought locally. It looks 100 times better and adds so much personality to the area!

We are planning on painting the shed (pastel blue, to match the wood on our house) and building new shelves for the inside to give that a bit of a spruce up too. We’ve moved the clothes airer over to the far side of the garden which opens up a bigger area for Archie to play and for his swing. Once the patio area is all weed-free and pretty again, we are also planning on getting some outside furniture or a little picnic bench. Once that is all done, our garden will be looking perfect!
Whilst Chris has been hard at work with all of this, Archie and I have been enjoying basking in the sun (with his factor 50 on, don’t worry) and playing to our hearts content. He loves nothing more than being outside in the sun, he watched everything and examines things in such great detail. It’s one of my favourite things to do, just to watch him take it all in and enjoy himself. We put out a big blanket on the grass with his toys and let him rummage around with them all while I hang out the washing or just have a little sunbathe. We just bought him a little paddling pool too – it was so hot the other day that we just popped him in naked and let him splash about for ages! He absolutely loved it, and Chris and I enjoyed dipping our toes in the nice cool water too.

Recently we’ve been loving little picnics. We’ve been taking some dinner to the park just a few minutes away from our house the other day, as well as just going out to the garden, and it’s so much fun to eat outside and have a little playtime outside before Archie’s bedtime. Between 4-6pm is usually when he starts getting a little bit tired and grumpy, so having a change of scenery and having a different style of dinner worked a treat at keeping him calm up until bath and bed. Things like sliced avocado, banana, strawberries, little sandwich fingers, quiche and organix snacks are perfect to take on a picnic, and it’s so quick and easy!

Archie had his first day at the beach recently too. He absolutely loved getting mucky and exploring around in the sand. It was so cute to watch him, he’s a proper little beach babe. It wasn’t quite warm enough to dip his toes in the water…maybe next time! I can tell he’s going to love the outdoors more and more as he grows older and starts running around the place with his football or playing basketball with his Daddy. We’ve got him a couple of outside toys for his 1st birthday coming up, so I can’t wait to see his reaction when we set them up for him too!

Love,

Daisy xxx
